Imagine stepping into your bathroom and being met with an old bathtub that requires a large step to enter. For individuals with mobility issues, this design presents a significant challenge, making it difficult to access and enjoy the bathing experience safely. The absence of essential support mechanisms such as grab rails increases the risk of accidents, adding to the overall difficulty.
One of the key issues with this outdated setup is the shower curtain, which fails to effectively prevent water from splashing onto the floor. The floor, not being slip-resistant, becomes dangerously slippery despite the presence of a bath mat. This hazardous condition is further compounded by the confined space, which restricts movement and adds to the discomfort and risk when entering or exiting the bath in an already cramped bathroom.
We replaced the problematic bath with a walk-in shower, significantly enhancing accessibility and reducing trip hazards. Although we usually recommend a level access shower, our client requested a shower with a minimal step, which we carefully incorporated into the design. The walls were strengthened to accommodate grab rails and a foldable shower chair when needed, ensuring future safety and convenience.
We installed slip-resistant tiles and a slip-resistant shower tray, allowing our client to step in and out of the shower without the fear of slipping. Additionally, a glass flipper section was fitted onto the end of the fixed glass. This section can open both inward and outward, effectively containing water within the shower area and further reducing slip risks.
By removing the old bath and installing a walk-in shower, we created additional space without needing to alter the structural walls. This thoughtful redesign now provides our client with a safer, more comfortable shower experience, allowing them to enjoy their bathing routine independently at any time.
